6 Ways to Find Inspiration
6 Ways to Find Inspiration
Creative blocks are bound to sneak in here and there and it can be hard to feel inspired or know what to create next. When I get stuck in a rut, I always do one of the following to find inspiration:
Go for a Walk
It might seem simple, but just the act of getting out of the house and looking intentionally at your surroundings can open your eyes to new things. Whether noticing a little flower growing on a weed or listening to the wind through the trees, by purposefully seeking to find something new you can open up your eyes to inspiration all around you.
Get Out of the City
One of my favorite ways to find inspiration is by going on a hike at a park or nearby national forest. With all the nature and wildlife, there are lots of opportunities to find something to get your juices flowing. I also find that getting out in nature reduces stress and helps me relax which is sometimes just what I need to reset.
Notice the Change of Seasons
I love when seasons change. I am continually inspired by the change in colors of nature and like to create color palettes based on the colors I see. I also take notice of how the plants change through the season like a falling golden leaf in autumn or a budding pink flower. It’s hard to not be inspired by nature's beauty.
Try Something New
I always learn when I try something new. Learning opens my eyes to see something a bit differently and along with that comes inspiration. Try a new medium, go plein air painting, read up on photography, visit a new museum, or try journaling.
Read a Book
Reading can transport you to new places like Hogwarts from “Harry Potter” or the marshland from “Where the Crawdads Sing”. Envisioning places through the lens of the author can give you ideas of subjects to paint or colors to use to invoke a certain feeling.
Travel to a New Place
Traveling to different places will most definitely open your eyes to new things and new ways of life. While traveling abroad might not always be possible, traveling to a new city can reveal hidden gems you might never have discovered
There are endless ways to be inspired. These are just some of my go-tos. Inspiration is all around us, we just have to remind ourselves to take a moment to intentionally look at things
